DENVER — Dewy 1 and Dewy 2 are no more.

One day after Brandon Duhaime was traded to the Colorado Avalanche, his partner in crime, Connor Dewar, was traded by the Minnesota Wild to the Toronto Maple Leafs, multiple league sources tell The Athletic. The Leafs sent a 2026 fourth-round pick to the Wild in the deal.

Dewar was No. 36 on The Athletic’s latest trade board.

  • Dewar has spent the past two seasons as the Wild’s fourth-line center and is a key penalty killer. He has 10 goals and four assists in 57 games.
  • The Wild drafted Dewar in the third round (92nd overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft.
  • Dewar is a pending restricted free agent with arbitration rights coming off a two-year deal with an $800,000 cap hit.
  • The Wild are in danger of missing the playoffs for only the second time in the past 12 years. They have 66 points in 63 games and are in sixth place in the Central Division.

What does Dewar bring?

Dewar, 24, is a solid bottom-six center and a strong penalty killer. He doesn’t have a lot of size (5-foot-10, 183 pounds), but he skates very well and is good on the forecheck. He can also bring some offense to a penalty kill, as he has four short-handed goals over the past two seasons. Dewar is a pretty soft-spoken guy — a small-town kid from The Pas, Manitoba — but he’s well-liked by teammates.

What does it mean for the Wild lineup?

There was some uncertainty as to whether the Wild would sign Dewar this summer, so this was a chance to get an asset in return. There should be some injured players coming back, like Marcus Foligno. Mason Shaw recently made his debut after recovering from his fourth ACL surgery. Prospect Marat Khusnutdinov is expected to arrive in Minnesota on Friday night and is a well-rounded, two-way center. There are plenty of forwards that can play up the middle, including Freddy Gaudreau and Ryan Hartman.
