West Ham United have completed the signing of Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City.

The Athletic reported on Tuesday West Ham had reached an agreement with Man City to take Phillips on loan for the remainder of the season.

There is no option to buy Phillips once the loan has ended. His full salary will be covered by West Ham, as well as the loan fee.

He said: “I’m really pleased to be here.

“There’s always been a lot of speculation about me moving to West Ham, so I’m really excited to get going now.

“There’s so much to look forward to in the second half of the season for the club and I can’t wait to be part of it.

“There’s an unbelievable group here and if I can come in and add the quality that I know I’m capable of, I’m sure we can give the West Ham fans plenty to be excited about between now and the end of the season.”

West Ham manager David Moyes added: “We are really pleased to bring a player of Kalvin’s quality to West Ham.

“We’ve been big admirers of him for a long time and we believe that he will add strength and competition to our squad.

“Kalvin is an England international midfielder, with proven Premier League experience — we’re excited to welcome him into the group and look forward to working with him.”

Phillips will wear the No 11 shirt at West Ham.

He flew back to England with the rest of the City squad from Abu Dhabi after completing a warm-weather training camp and had a medical with West Ham on Thursday.

City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed on Thursday that Phillips was closing in on a move away from the Etihad, saying he hopes “he can play the minutes he deserves that I couldn’t give to him”.

Juventus were also exploring a potential move for Phillips after he was made available for loan by City.

West Ham sold defensive midfielder Declan Rice to Arsenal in the summer for £105million ($134m) and strengthened in midfield by signing James Ward-Prowse from Southampton and Edson Alvarez from Ajax. Fellow midfielder Tomas Soucek, whose contract had been up at the end of this season, signed a new deal until 2027 this season.

Phillips joined City from Leeds United in 2022 but has struggled for regular game time, making just 16 Premier League appearances since signing and being restricted to two starts in all competitions this season.

Moyes has long been a fan of Phillips – West Ham loan suits all parties
