Andre Lima earned a $50,000 bonus for winning his UFC fight Saturday night, but it wasn’t by way of knockout, submission or judges’ decision. Rather, Lima was bit by his opponent, Igor Severino, and won by disqualification.

Lima celebrated the unusual win by flexing the arm with the bite mark, then later going to a local tattoo studio and permanently memorializing the rare victory bonus.

Bonuses are awarded at nearly every UFC event for categories such as Fight of the Night and Performance of the Night — given to the evening’s flashiest knockouts or submissions — but Bite of the Night appears to be an all-time first.

Severino, who was making his UFC debut, was not only disqualified but later released from the promotion for his antic. The 20-year-old Brazilian sunk his teeth in Lima around the 3-minute mark of the second round.

After Lima jerked back and showed referee Chris Tognoni his arm, a Nevada State Athletic Commission doctor was brought into the octagon to examine Lima’s arm. When the bite mark was noticed, the fight was waved off.

UFC President Dana White told MMA reporter Kevin Iole in a text message that he was cutting Severino.

“Those were two up-and-coming undefeated fighters,” White told Iole. “If you get frustrated and want out of the fight, there are plenty of ways to do it, but the worst thing u can do is bite your opponent. Now, you get cut and lose the biggest opportunity of your life. Not to mention, he’s going to have real problems with the NSAC.”

White initially gave Lima a $25,000 bonus for the unusual victory, then doubled the bonus to $50,000 when the fighter went out to get the tattoo.

Along with getting the bite mark tattooed, Lima had the words “I got f—— bit bonus” inked around the teeth marks.
