TechCrunch Minute: Boston Dynamics’ new Atlas robot shows off its push-up skills

When we mention Boston Dynamics, there are probably two things that come to mind: cool robots and viral videos showing off what those robots can do.

The latest video that the company shared with TechCrunch doesn’t disappoint on either front. It features the new Atlas humanoid robot dropping to the mat and doing a bunch of push-ups.

There probably isn’t a big commercial use case for a robot doing push-ups, though I did find it both intimidating and weirdly motivating to see how Atlas can just keep going without getting tired or losing form. But what’s really being shown off here is Atlas’ actuators, which are supposed to allow for an impressive range of motion.

It’s also an interesting contrast with the previously released footage of the new Atlas, where it was bending and twisting in ways that normal humans can’t.
