The Los Angeles Rams and standout right guard Kevin Dotson have agreed to terms on a three-year extension, two league sources said.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter initially reported the terms of the $48 million deal.

Dotson was acquired by the Rams via trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers last summer, as a part of their efforts to overhaul their offensive line via scheme and personnel. He quickly became one of Pro Football Focus’ highest-rated interior offensive linemen and run-blockers.

The Rams made Dotson a priority ahead of free agency. League and team sources previously estimated that the Rams’ range would be close to $12-16 million per year. Some experts projected the top of the interior offensive line market to reach $20 million, and despite the Rams’ resources entering free agency they were not going to overspend at the position. Pending the deal becoming official at the start of the new league year, Dotson now won’t hit free agency and still gets a significant contract.
