The Pittsburgh Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes are close to a trade involving forward Jake Guentzel, according to league sources. With both teams playing Thursday night, there are still some details to work through, with a trade call with the league likely happening postgame. But all signs are pointing toward Guentzel heading to Carolina. Hurricanes forward Michael Bunting is involved in the trade package, per league sources.

Guentzel is ranked No. 1 on The Athletic’s latest trade board.

The 29-year-old winger was scoring at a 36-goal, 85-point pace before an upper-body injury sidelined him on Feb. 14.

Guentzel helped the Penguins to a Stanley Cup in 2016-17. In 50 games with the Penguins prior to his injury, Guentzel scored 22 goals and 52 points.
