Ohio State’s 2025 recruiting cycle has picked up steam in the past few days, with four-star safety DeShawn Stewart and receiver De’zie Jones joining four-star defensive lineman London Merritt and linebacker Tarvos Alford as commitments since Friday.
Stewart and Jones are teammates at DePaul Catholic in Wayne, N.J. Stewart is ranked No. 284 in the 247Sports Composite and chose the Buckeyes over Penn State, Michigan State and Cincinnati. Jones is ranked No. 367 and chose the Buckeyes over Penn State, Michigan State and Florida.

What does this mean for Ohio State?
The Buckeyes are continuing their chase for the No. 1 class in the 2025 cycle. After a busy weekend, Ohio State has 11 commitments and has leaped to No. 2 in the 247Sports Composite class rankings.
Stewart is Ohio State’s first commitment for new safeties coach Matt Guerrieri. It’s a nice addition to the class, especially considering how hard Big Ten foe Penn State was pushing for him. In the secondary, the Buckeyes also have commitments from top-100 corners Na’eem Offord, Devin Sanchez and Blake Woodby.
This commitment also shouldn’t change much with Ohio State’s pursuit of five-star corner Dorian Brew. The Buckeyes will also continue to prioritize Trey McNutt, who is the No. 1 safety in the country and top-ranked player in Ohio.
Eight of Ohio State’s 11 commitments are on defense. Jones joins four-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair and four-star offensive tackle Carter Lowe as the team’s commitments on offense after four-star receiver Jayvan Boggs decommitted last week.
