Alabama men’s basketball added its second transfer portal addition of the offseason on Saturday when USF transfer Chris Youngblood announced his decision via his Instagram account. Youngblood, a Tuscaloosa native, averaged 15.3 points for the Bulls last season. He has one more year of eligibility, having begun his college career at Kennesaw State, where he averaged 12.6 points per game as a three-year starter.

Youngblood joins former Pepperdine guard Houston Mallette as the program’s current transfer additions.

What it means for Alabama

Youngblood’s addition comes on the heels of two Alabama guards entering the transfer portal: Davin Cosby and Rylan Griffen. A 6-4, 218 pound wing with 118 career starts, Youngblood’s experience and scoring ability (he’s a career 39.4 percent shooter from 3-point range) will fit nicely within an Alabama offense designed to create opportunities for shooters. Youngblood will be counted on as a rotation player next season at minimum.

Youngblood’s arrival brings Alabama’s scholarship total back to 13 players, the NCAA limit. Several players still have stay-or-go decisions to make, including Mark Sears, Grant Nelson, Nick Pringle and Latrell Wrightsell Jr. Should there be any more departures, expect the Crimson Tide to seek out a defensive-minded post player in the portal.
