• What did they get right? The teams are actually very fun options and should bring interest to the event.
• What did they get wrong? The team format sucks. Give us four guards going against four bigs again.

• What did they get right? It’s hard to get it wrong. Shooters shoot. We can quibble with some inclusions, but this is a great field.
• What did they get wrong? Because Steph Curry will be shooting against Sabrina Ionescu, he’s not competing in this. I’d rather Luka Dončić compete or see Coby White (career-high 40.2 percent from deep) or Grayson Allen (NBA-best 49.4) replace Beasley (43.7).

Dunk Contest: Jaylen Brown (2), Mac McClung (2, won in 2023), Jaime Jaquez Jr. (rookie), Jacob Toppin (rookie)

• What did they get right? Like Tom Hanks in “Castaway,” I’m the lone occupant of Dunk Contest Is Still Good Island, but this is kind of a rough field to champion. Brown and McClung should still be able to put on a show.
• What did they get wrong? I’m willing to be wrong, but Jaquez hasn’t really shown dunk contest material since high school. Also, I’m sorry, but the best we could do was Obi Toppin’s brother as a fourth contestant?! We couldn’t make Ausar and Amen Thompson do it?! Nobody had Ricky Davis’ phone number?
