Washington Nationals prospect Daylen Lile was stretchered off the field in Fort Myers, Fla., on Saturday after flipping into the Boston Red Sox bullpen while chasing a ball during a spring training game.

Pursuing a ball hit by Tyler Miller deep to right field in the seventh inning, Lile jumped up against the wall and extended his glove, but flipped headfirst over the bullpen and out of sight. The Red Sox relievers and staff in the area immediately called for trainers to attend to Lile, who gave a thumbs-up as he was carted off the field.

Lile went to a local hospital for a CAT scan of his lower back and was able to move his arms and legs, Nationals manager Dave Martinez told reporters Saturday.

“Hit pretty hard, hit the ground,” Martinez said. “He’s going to get checked out. When we left, he was moving his feet and his legs. Hopefully, everything comes back negative. We’ll pray for him.”

Lile, 21, is ranked as the No. 5 Nationals prospect by The Athletic’s Keith Law.

He missed the 2022 season after Tommy John surgery but bounced back well last year, hitting .291/.381/.510 in Low A before scuffling a little in a late-season promotion to High-A Wilmington. Lile’s power behind the plate was developing well heading into the 2024 season, per Law.
