We’ve already seen a lot of “winning” from President Donald Trump and his team so far, just in under one week.
A lot of the failure of the Biden administration is being overturned, slowly but surely, from the failures at the border to the failures in the economy. Trump winning the 2024 election even helped to effectuate freeing hostages from Hamas, a process which is still in progress.
There’s a new sheriff in town. The world knows it’s no longer the incompetent, incoherent Joe Biden, and they are acting accordingly. As Trump put it in Vegas, there’s a “light over America,” and even foreign leaders are seeing it.

Now, there’s more news from Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the release of an American woman, Anastassia Nuhfer, from Belarus.

“Unilaterally” would seem to imply that there were no conditions to get Nuhfer back, so that’s a great move to get that done. We didn’t have to release criminals or give the country pallets of cash. What’s sort of incredible is that it apparently received no real media coverage that Nuhfer had been detained at al. Holding an American is a pretty big deal.
Belarus’ leader, President Alexander Lukashenko, a Vladimir Putin ally, has locked up a lot of his political opponents. He just won an election on Sunday, which the opposition regards as a sham election for a seventh term in office:
The U.S. State Department said later on Sunday that Nuhfer was detained in early December 2024. It said that earlier this month, a consular officer from Washington was granted rare access to an American detainee in Belarus.
A former high-ranking Belarusian diplomat told AP that Nuhfer’s arrest was linked to the 2020 protests, although he did not give details.
A source told the AP that she was released as a gesture of “goodwill.”
Lithuania-based Belarusian opposition leader, Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya cheered Nuhfer’s release in a post on X:
“Thank you to our [American] friends for your advocacy on [Nuhfer’s] behalf and for all political prisoners in Belarus,” she wrote on X. “Every one of them must be freed. We will continue to fight for the release of all unjustly detained.”
Good win for Rubio, the Trump team, and America. This is what should be your first priority. They’re truly showing with moves like this that Americans do come first, and they will work to get people home. Nice after not having that focus for the last four years. This is how it’s done.
