Mike Tyson is “doing great” after a medical incident on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles on Sunday, according to his representatives.
“He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing,” Tyson’s representatives said in a statement to The Athletic. “He is appreciative to the medical staff that were there to help him.”
In Touch Weekly was first to report that the former world heavyweight champion had a medical emergency on the plane. About 30 minutes before the plane’s landing, the crew asked passengers if a doctor was on board, and paramedics eventually boarded the plane to attend to Tyson, according to In Touch Weekly.
The flight to Los Angeles was delayed by two hours, and initial rumors swirled that Tyson’s medical emergency caused the delay. However, Tyson’s representatives called the rumor “false reporting” and said an aircraft air conditioning issue caused the flight’s delay.
Tyson, 57, will face Logan Paul, 29, in a heavyweight boxing fight at AT&T Stadium — home of the Dallas Cowboys — on July 20. Paul, a social media influencer-turned-fighter, owns a 9-1 record since turning professional in January 2020. Paul fought former NBA player Nate Robinson on the undercard of Tyson’s fight against Roy Jones Jr. in November of the same year.
Tyson, who became the youngest heavyweight champion at 20, quickly earned a reputation as one of the most feared knockout punchers in boxing history and once managed a run of 37 consecutive victories, with 33 of those wins coming by stoppage. He has a 50-6 career record.
