A historic estate with a rich legacy is set to make headlines as it goes under the hammer with no reserve.

Migdale Castle, located in Millbrook, New York, was once home to Margaret ‘Midge’ Carnegie, daughter of the legendary steel magnate and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, according to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com.

Andrew Carnegie, one of the wealthiest Americans in history, amassed his fortune through shrewd investments and the establishment of the Carnegie Steel Company.

He later sold his company to JP Morgan, which became the backbone of US Steel.

Carnegie dedicated much of his fortune to philanthropy, funding libraries, educational institutions, and various causes.

His daughter, Margaret, inherited US$15 million and continued the family’s tradition of philanthropy.

Migdale Castle, built in 1927 and named as a play on Margaret’s name, boasts classic British design with an ivy-covered stone facade.

The interior features exposed-beam ceilings, stone floors, elegant fireplaces, and intricate wooden banisters.

The estate spans about 3158sq m, offering 10 bedrooms, a grand kitchen with blonde hardwood cabinets, an indoor pool and hot tub, a home theatre, and a 5000-bottle wine cellar.

Renovated in 2000, the castle seamlessly blends historic charm with modern conveniences.

Set on more than 50 acres of lush grounds, the estate includes tennis courts, a cabana, a playground, and multiple ponds.

The auction also offers the opportunity to purchase an additional 150 acres, featuring walking trails, fields, orchards, and an organic garden with a greenhouse.

Millbrook, a quaint yet affluent village located about 144km north of New York City, is known for its picturesque charm and celebrity residents, including Faith Hill, Liam Neeson, Jessica Lange, and Rufus Wainwright.

The village gained notoriety in the 1960s as the domain of LSD evangelist Timothy Leary.

Modern attractions include the Millbrook Golf and Tennis Club, Orvis Sandanona Shooting Grounds, and a variety of shops and restaurants.

The auction, conducted by Concierge Auctions, will close on May 30th.

Previously listed for $14 million, Migdale Castle will sell with no reserve, offering a rare opportunity to own a piece of history.
