Manchester United will play Norwegian club Rosenborg in their first pre-season match ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

The game will be held in Rosenborg’s 21,000-capacity Lerkendal Stadion in Trondheim on July 15.

Rosenborg are 26-time champions of Norway and while the two clubs have never previously met in a competitive fixture, they contested several friendly fixtures in the 1970s and 1990s.

United will play Rangers at Murrayfield in Edinburgh on July 20 before travelling to the United States to play Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool.

“Everyone at Manchester United is pleased to be returning to Norway for the opening match of our pre-season campaign, renewing the special relationship which exists with our huge support base in Scandinavia,” United’s football director John Murtough said.

“It’s surprising that these two clubs have never met competitively, and not for over 30 years in pre-season, making this a rare opportunity to see United taking on the
most successful team in Norwegian football as we begin our preparations for the 2024/25 season.”

Rosenborg were most recently crowned Norwegian champions in 2018 and regularly competed in the Champions League group stages in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
