In the heart of Los Angeles’s Laurel Canyon, a unique treetop retreat with a rich history of hosting music legends is now for sale at US$1.98 million.

Known for its secluded ambiance and celebrity gatherings, the home once welcomed the likes of John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and Stevie Nicks, among others.

The property, which hasn’t been on the market since 2016, was purchased by Fredrik Peterhoff, the vice president creative at Estee Laude, for US$950,000, according to Mansion Global.

This Laurel Canyon hideaway, situated in the Hollywood Hills West, stands as a testament to the area’s vibrant counterculture movement of the late 1960s and early ’70s.

Laurel Canyon became a hub for influential musicians and artists, making this property a part of musical history.

The home itself, constructed in 1961 by John Compton, has seen various notable owners, including Australian Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe.

Spanning 98sq m, the house is accessed by a tram and features an open floor plan with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an office.

Its design incorporates restored panelled walls, stained glass, and original window frames, blending modern amenities with historical charm.

The renovation, led by Andreas E.G. Larsson of HabHouse, focused on preserving the essence of the home as an homage to its illustrious past.

Offering breathtaking views of the city from its two decks, the property serves as a peaceful retreat for creativity and relaxation.

Its rich history is highlighted by the framed images of Stevie Nicks, discovered by Peterhoff, and the stories of John Lennon’s visits.

The house’s allure is further accentuated by its connection to Elliot Mintz, a close friend of Lennon and Ono, and a key figure in preserving Lennon’s legacy through The Lost Lennon Tapes radio series.

Located just 10 minutes from Sunset Strip, this exceptional home is not just a residence but a piece of music history, offering a unique connection to the legends of Laurel Canyon.
