As the weeks tick down to the exit of the Biden Administration and the official entrance of the next Trump administration, the left and its bureaucratic adherents in the government and health spheres not slowed down in trying to cement their desires on the country before Joe Biden leaves office.

As we shared previously, Democrats in California signaled in August 2023 that there could be policy changes connected to all Americans’ health, when the state became the first in the U.S. to ban six food coloring additives from foods served in public schools

Then in early December, the Biden Food and Drug Administration announced during a meeting with the Senate that it was “reviewing the possibility of new rules that would effectively ban the colorings in some U.S. foods,” with the intention of putting the new policies in place within weeks.

Readers likely noticed the fearmongering from “public health” authorities leading up and during the Christmas holiday season about the bird flu becoming the next pandemic. including the so-called COVID scarf queen, Dr. Deborah Birx.

On Friday evening, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy (who also served in the Obama administration) took to CNN’s “The Situation Room” to lay out his case on what he sees as a major health issue that not enough Americans are aware of: the risk posed by drinking alcoholic beverages for getting cancer. Those warnings began in 1988.

Host Wolf Blitzer asked him the same question I’m sure many people are asking: Why now?

It was a pretty low information answer, with Murthy hemming and hawing about it taking an enormous amount of time to huddle with his staff, and that consensus among the scientific community had been building after several studies seemed to show the substance as a major risk for developing one of a group of cancers.

He warned that after smoking and obesity, drinking was the third top cause. And it only got scarier from there.

The surgeon general continued with his talking points, stating that not only does he want “more public education around this” problem, he also wants the government to slap another warning label on alcoholic products, in addition to the well-known ones about the risk to pregnancies and operating motor vehicles.

Yet there was no follow up from Blitzer.

Lastly, the surgeon general wants the national health guidelines on consuming alcohol to be revised, to state that even one or two alcoholic drinks per day (the current limits for women and men, respectively) come with a health risk for cancer. All of these things, he admits, require Congressional approval.

Okay, let’s assume that everything Murthy said is true. We all know that alcohol comes with health risks already. Is this the way to go about convincing the country that drinking is a no-go? It smacks of a schoolteacher lecturing elementary school children after they hid her chalkboard erasers. This isn’t the way you speak to full-grown adults about improving their day to day health.

Again, it begs the question: If this were such an important and crucial issue, why wait until you are nearly out the door? Are activists in the medical community burning up his office’s phone/text messages about this or something? It’s a possibility. There’s also this quandary: if you hope to reach the maximum number of Americans with an urgent message, why would you ever sit down for an interview with CNN?

Donald Trump, in any case, isn’t retaining Murthy as Surgeon General, but tapped Dr. Janette Nesheiwat for the job; as my colleague Streiff wrote when President-elect Trump nominated her, we might not be getting much of an improvement over Murthy.

Regardless, if and when the federal government puts drinking on par with smoking as a cause of cancer, it’ll be someone else’s call–not a clock-watcher in the waning hours of the Biden White House.
