Just How Desperate Are Democrats? Federal Agencies Get New Duty – Voter Registration

As President Joe Biden’s mental and physical state, along with his abysmal record, cause his election polling numbers to plummet, Democrats seem more and more desperate for some sort of magic bean to make it all go away. Unfortunately for them, that’s not bloody likely.

Now, it appears as if it is literally an all-hands-on-deck approach to the 2024 election. While the one thing both Democrats and Republicans might agree on is that voter registration is key, Democrats have figured out that, with federal agencies under their control, why not put them to work?

Wait a minute, don’t they already have a specific function? Well, yes, but now there will be another added responsibility: voter registration.

On Tuesday, during a roundtable discussion, Vice President Kamala Harris announced new get-out-the-vote efforts involving several federal agencies. Some of the new voter registration pushes will include signs promoting the “Vote.gov” voter registration website at over one thousand Social Security (SSA) offices and national parks, and the Department of Health and Human Services will email information on voter registration to anyone who has acquired healthcare through Affordable Care Act health insurance exchanges. The Department of Justice (DOJ) has created the Elections Threats Taskforce, which has held roughly 100 events to train local election officials on how to protect poll workers.

But federal employees who already have jobs are not the only ones being put to work to reelect Joe Biden. In addition to the efforts involving federal agencies, Harris also announced a work-study-type program that would pay college students taxpayer dollars to register people to vote. Harris said of the program,

“We have been doing work to promote voter participation for students. For example, we have under the Federal Work-Study program now allow students to get paid through Federal Work-Study to register people and to be non-partisan poll workers. As we know, this is important for a number of reasons. One, to engage our young leaders in this process and activate them in terms of their ability to strengthen our communities.”

First of all, if you are being paid by the federal government, currently being run by Democrats, just how “non-partisan” will you actually be? Secondly, like many other demographics, the Democrat Party is hemorrhaging young voters. In 2020, it was young people who, in large part, got Joe Biden across the finish line. In 2024, it is a vastly different story. In 2020, voters aged 18-29 backed Joe Biden by 60 percent. Now, a recent USA Today/Suffolk University poll shows that among voters aged 35 and under, Biden is trailing Donald Trump 37-33 percent.

The Biden administration has also targeted some key dates on which they plan to ask groups that champion voting rights to bolster voter registration. Those dates are Juneteenth, the anniversary of the passage of the Voting Rights Act, on August 6, and National Voter Registration Day on September 24. There is also an effort to provide voter registration information in more languages than English and Spanish. Voter information will now also be in Chinese, Arabic, and Navajo.

But all of this only further illustrates the nervousness of Democrats. And they have every reason, at least right now, to be nervous. Nationally, Donald Trump currently leads Joe Biden by two points. Trump is also leading Biden in every swing state, by as thin a margin as 1.2 points in Wisconsin to a whopping 8.4 points in Nevada.

But the real question may be: Are Republicans going to match these efforts by Democrats? There is currently a change in leadership occurring at the Republican National Committee (RNC), as current RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel will step down on March 8, and it is expected that RNC general counsel Michael Whatley will take over, along with Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, who will be co-chair. But after that change is complete, can Republicans expect bold, aggressive voter registration campaigns as well? This level of Democrat desperation should be a healthy wake-up call for the GOP.

At least now, while vacationing in America’s national parks this summer, we know that it is now part of his job for your friendly Park Ranger to ask if you are registered to vote.
