Josh Dasilva is close to agreeing a new contract at Brentford.

The 25-year-old is  set to extend his stay in west London. His existing deal was due to expire on June 30, and the club had the option to extend for a further year, but talks have swiftly progressed over fresh terms.

Despite grappling with injuries throughout the season, head coach Thomas Frank was eager to retain Dasilva’s services, with the midfielder making limited appearances due to hamstring and knee issues.

The former Arsenal academy graduate has been restricted to just five appearances across the campaign, and had surgery in February after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in training.

Dasilva has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, having also been out for 12 months between February 2021 and February 2022 with a hip issue. He did, however, make 36 Premier League appearances in 2022-23, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

Despite his setbacks, Brentford have demonstrated their commitment to Dasilva’s well-being by offering support during his recovery. The new deal will give him extra time to recover and not rush his rehabilitation.

Dasilva has made 157 appearances for Brentford since joining on a free transfer in 2018.

He played a pivotal role in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and has since been key in the club remaining in the top flight over the past three seasons.
