As RedState previously reported, in the aftermath of the news of former POTUS Jimmy Carter’s passing on Sunday, President Joe Biden, who was a Senator during the 39th president’s time in the White House, gave a rare public speech in which he offered condolences and talked about Carter’s legacy both as a man and as leader of the free world.
As we also reported, Biden shamefully took a jab at President-Elect Donald Trump when asked by a reporter if there was anything Trump could “take” from Carter.
“Deceny, decency, decency. Everybody deserves a shot,” Biden proclaimed. “Can you imagine Jimmy Carter walking by someone who needed something and just keep walking? Can you imagine Jimmy Carter referring to someone by the way they look or the way they talk?” Biden also said in response to the reporter’s question.

My colleague Nick Arama and others observed that Biden was the last person who should be lecturing anyone about decency for a whole host of reasons, including his despicable treatment of Judges Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas during their respective Supreme Court confirmation hearings in the late 1980s/early 1990s.
But there was another equally important reason, one that directly correlated to presidential pardons of close family members, that George Washington University law school professor Jonathan Turley had in mind when he wrote a lengthy thread turning Biden’s comments around on him in epic fashion:
President Biden is offering lessons on what presidents could learn from the late President Carter. He is certainly right about setting the standard for civility and decency, but here is one that Biden missed: Carter did not pardon his brother Billy in a corruption scandal…

…Unlike President Biden who lied repeatedly to the voters in denying that (1) Hunter had any dealings with the Chinese, (2) he ever met his son’s clients, and (3) knew of any of these dealings, Carter told the truth to the American people…
— Jonathan Turley (@JonathanTurley) December 30, 2024
Turley concluded with this:
Instead of showing Carter’s honesty, Biden lied for years and then pardoned his own son after repeatedly denying that he would ever do so during the campaign. He pardoned his son for any crimes committed over a ten-year period, including potential crimes that many believe implicated the President himself in the multimillion influence-peddling operation…
That record is precisely why “Some look at Jimmy Carter and see a man of a bygone era with honesty and character.” They look at Biden himself and say “We’d all do well to try to be more like Jimmy Carter.”
The position of president is obviously an incredibly powerful one. Though Carter’s political legacy is going to be debated in the months and years to come, it says a lot about him that he resisted using his power to protect his brother from a potential prosecution over the Billygate scandal.
Joe Biden, on the other hand, well, his disgraceful actions speak for themselves – and him.
