Tyrod Taylor isn’t going too far, as the former New York Giants quarterback agreed to terms with the New York Jets on Monday, a league source confirmed.

Taylor is coming off a 2023 season in which he threw for 1,341 yards and five touchdowns against three interceptions. The 34-year-old signed a two-year, $11 million contract with the Giants in 2022. He’s also played for the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans.

Taylor ranks as the No. 103 free agent on The Athletic’s Randy Mueller’s rankings. He’s expected to play as a backup for Jets starter Aaron Rodgers, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon four plays into the Week 1 game and missed the remainder of last season.

Scouting report

Even in his age-35 season, Taylor can be a solid backup. He makes good decisions for the most part and can administrate the offense while offering plus athletic ability. He has enough arm, gets the ball out quickly and can throw accurately downfield. — Randy Mueller, NFL staff writer
