Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott has “everything you need” to be a big asset to England at this summer’s European Championship in Germany.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has yet to be capped at senior international level but has strengthened his claims to be part of Gareth Southgate’s squad with some fine performances for his club.

Elliott capped a man of the match display with a stunning goal in Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

“If whatever I said would help Harvey, I would say it,” Klopp said.

“But it starts a discussion in public and then people say ‘what does he want to do at the Euros?’

“Harvey did nothing wrong but some people will find a reason and say ‘why should Harvey Elliott be there?’ Maybe the boy reads it and feels bad.

“Harvey is in a great moment. If someone wants to pick him, he has everything you need. He could pack a suitcase in an instant, not a problem.”

Harvey Elliott – a very underrated Liverpool superstar

Elliott has clocked up 51 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season but has only started on 25 occasions.

“It’s not that I go back and think about what we did wrong, but if I regret anything it’s that Harvey didn’t play often enough maybe,” Klopp added.

“During a very intense period in January when we had a lot of injuries, he played really well. Right wing, right midfield, probably our best player.

“Then players came back, he got minutes here, minutes there, didn’t start any more. But when he came on he made a big impact.”
