Gareth Southgate has confirmed that striker Harry Kane will miss England’s match against Belgium due to an ankle injury.

The England captain, 30, sat out of his nation’s 1-0 defeat against Brazil on Saturday due to the problem he picked up after colliding with a goalpost late on in Bayern Munich’s 5-2 Bundesliga win over Darmstadt on March 16.

Southgate had suggested before the Brazil encounter that Kane’s availability for Tuesday’s match was “extremely doubtful” and he has now confirmed the striker will return to Germany and undergo treatment.

Southgate said: “Yeah, he’ll go back (to Germany). He won’t be fit for Tuesday.”

Kane was initially included in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, and Bayern had confirmed that he would fly to England as planned.

Kane extended his impressive debut season in Germany with his 31st league goal in the victory over Darmstadt, surpassing any other player’s tally in their first Bundesliga campaign.

Bayern, meanwhile, return to action on March 30 with a game against Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena.
