On Sunday’s episode of ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos, Senator JD Vance’s (R-Ohio) interview with Stephanopoulos was cut off early after Vance’s comment that alluded to Donald Trump being able to defy a Supreme Court ruling if he were to be elected as President again.

During the interview, Stephanopoulos asked Vance a hypothetical question regarding the possibility of a future President Trump defying an order from the Supreme Court. He pressed Vance on remarks from a 2021 podcast where the senator commented on the possible scenario where if he were to have been in a position where he could advise a future President Trump, he would urge Trump to fire government bureaucrats and replace them with his people.

[…]he would advise Trump to “fire every single mid-level bureaucrat, every civil servant in the administrative state, replace them with our people,” according to ABC News, and then when the courts tried to stop Trump, he should “stand before the country like Andrew Jackson did, and say, ‘The chief justice has made his ruling. Now let him enforce it.’”

Vance elaborated that if administrators and bureaucrats do not respond or abide by the elected branch’s laws or directives, then that would be a major problem. During the back-and-forth exchange between the two, Stephanopoulos pressured Vance on whether Trump or any president had the power to defy a “legitimate ruling” from the Supreme Court. Vance responded to Stephanopoulos by saying that if the Court issued a ruling that said Trump was not allowed to fire a general, then it would be an “illegitimate ruling” and that the president would have to invoke Article Two authority to “actually run the military as he sees fit” as the Commander in Chief.

After answering his question, Stephanopolus then proceeded to do what supposed journalists should not, namely, frame an accusation against the interviewee, then put words into his mouth before cutting his microphone off and ending the interview. Stephanopoulos spoke over Vance as he was shown attempting to refute Stephanopolus’s allegation, managing to get off “No no George” before he was muted by Stephanopoulos, who began to introduce his next guest. The whole time Vance was muted, he was still shown on a split screen between himself and Stephanopoulos, who was looking down and shuffling his papers.

Stephanopoulos committed journalistic malpractice, which is becoming almost standard practice in today’s modern media, which makes the point that several critics of media, including those of us here at RedState, have made, that traditional journalism and journalists alike are dying out and being replaced by independent journalism and journalists.

What Stephanopoulos did was a classic example of framing an agenda-setting argument, before putting words into the mouth of an interviewee before cutting that person off and not allowing them to answer or elaborate on their answer. Vance was denied an opportunity to refute what Stephanopoulos was saying, thus denying the viewership of seeing and hearing an opposing viewpoint with an explanation. Not a surprise, however, coming from Stephanopoulos, who is a registered Democrat and notable supporter of the Clintons. Stephanopoulos was even forced to apologize over eight years ago after it was reported that he made tens of thousands of dollars worth of undisclosed political donations to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign back in 2016. Senator JD Vance should have been allowed to fully answer and explain his positions after being ambushed at the end of the interview, but the media elites won’t allow that anymore.
