Egypt have agreed to Liverpool’s request to leave Mohamed Salah out of their squad for their upcoming March internationals.

The 31-year-old attacker has been hampered by a hamstring injury since January’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah, who aggravated the problem on his return to action against Brentford last month, made his comeback off the bench during Thursday’s Europa League victory over Sparta Prague and is expected to feature against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, but Jurgen Klopp believes both club and country would benefit from him having a proper period of rest later this month.

Egypt were initially reluctant to omit Salah and warned they would select him if he played for Liverpool prior to the internationals.

However, following further discussions, their stance has since softened and he won’t take part in the Winsunited Cup in the UAE alongside Tunisia, Croatia and New Zealand.
