California Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine) eked out a spot in the Top 2 winners for the CA-47 Congressional race in November. This is despite the very embarrassing and very public May of 2023 DUI.

Min was driving near the state capitol with his headlights off. When police followed him and saw he blew through a red light, they pulled him over. The video footage shows he could barely stand, and when he submitted to the breathalyzer he blew twice the legal limit. The breathalyzer was performed twice, and both times showed the same number.

But like the late, great, Maha Rushdie would opine, for Democrats, scandal is a resume enhancer. And so it is with Dave Min. Min received little condemnation from his colleagues for endangering the lives of Californians, instead they poured on the endorsements.

Colleagues like Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and of course, California Governor Gavin Newsom, who is no stranger to scandal—or being a dipsomaniac. It was during his bender years as San Francisco governor when he had an affair with his best friend and campaign manager’s wife.

But that’s all behind him now after rehab. The righteous Hair Gel is now disgusted by the unvaccinated, who he compared to drunk drivers.

And yet Dave Min did exactly that, and gets a pass and an endorsement. He and Newsome stick to each other like glue. Min is quite proud of the Newsom endorsement.

Birds of a feather, and all that.

Dangerous Dave Min is bragging about Gavin Newsom’s endorsement today. It follows Min recently touting his endorsement by socialist Squad members like Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib.

In Sacramento, Min rubber-stamped Newsom’s extreme, failed policies hiking taxes, gas prices and the cost of living while letting crime and homelessness run rampant.

Despite all this largesse, including in fundraising, Min cannot shake the shadow of Scott Baugh, who recent polling shows is up by five points.

Min is hitting all the right progressive notes: reproductive freedom, climate change, evil MAGA Republicans, yet he is not sealing the deal with certain voters. Baugh’s campaign advisor Jon Fleischman thinks that the NPP (No Party Preference) voters will tip the scales of the 2024 election.

Jon Fleischman, the former executive director of the California Republican Party and an informal advisor to Baugh, has a different take: In a low-profile race, voters could be motivated by the political party attached to a candidate’s name, but CA-47 is anything but run-of-the-mill.

Fleischman pointed to the no party preference voters that make up nearly a fourth of the electorate in the district, saying candidates’ messaging on “swing voters issues,” such as affordability and lowering crime, will resonate with those voters.

“No-party-preference voters will decide the race,” he said.

Then there is the money that was poured into the March 5 primary.

Millions of dollars were funneled into the CA-47 primary, including from the pro-abortion rights group EMILY’s List and the pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC. AIPAC alone poured nearly $4.5 million in anti-Min ads that highlighted Min’s 2023 arrest in Sacramento for driving under the influence.

Min acted repentant for his actions, but apparently still struggles with just getting one more drink.

While Baugh is not one to hit below the belt, Min’s DUI is a legitimate reason to question his judgment as well as his fitness for higher office. Both have agreed to appear together on Voice of Orange County’s “Feet to the Fire” podcast. We will find out how well Min can navigate on his feet and sober.
