The Washington Capitals placed Evgeny Kuznetsov on waivers, general manager Brian MacLellan said Saturday, the same day the NHL announced that the forward was cleared by the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program to resume practicing with the team.

Kuznetsov carries a $7.8 million cap charge through the end of next season. He’s owed $8 million in actual compensation next year, including a $2 million signing bonus.
