My checklist: I’m not a fan of fabric sofas—I seemingly always live by people who smoke, and that smoke gets trapped in the material. For that reason alone, I prefer leather. Also, I just find leather to be a cleaner material. When I visit friends and family, I’m always looking apprehensively at their sofas and trying to find a barstool to sit on instead. (Admittedly, I’m a borderline germaphobe, so that’s also my first thought when getting into someone’s vehicle if they have fabric seats.)

Trying to choose from the various types of fabric sofa colors too is a bit much in my opinion. (Will I love this navy blue next year? Does this green overwhelm the room? Is this gray too bland?). However, a tan leather sofa fits any decor. Then, of course, the sofa needs to be comfortable and durable. Lastly, I prefer a sofa that comes as a part of a larger collection, so there’s always the option to go back and get additional items.

The details: Founded in 2017, Burrow is a popular New York–based furniture company known for making quality pieces of modular furniture that can be ordered online and shipped in several easy-to-manage boxes. The company has showrooms in New York, Boston, and Atlanta, and a Los Angeles showroom is coming soon.

Burrow makes sofas, sectionals, loveseats, sleepers, beds, accent chairs, and ottomans. In addition, the company has widened its scope since launch and now makes such accessories as wall shelves, bookcases, credenzas, and media storage, lighting, rugs, and more.

Price: How much does it cost? Are there payment plans available?

The Burrow Block Nomad Leather Sofa is $2,495. The ottoman adds $595 for a total price of $3,090. Through Affirm, Burrow offers 3-, 6-, and 12-month financing options with 0–30% APR.

What are the upholstery or customization options? Did you choose any?

The Burrow Block Nomad sofa is highly customizable. To start, it’s available in three top-grain Italian leather colors: camel (which is what I have), slate, and chestnut. The company engages in ethical leather sourcing by partnering with farmers to divert hides for their pieces. The Nomad sofa collection also includes velvet (in midnight, jade, graphite gray, dusk, and feather), and upholstered fabric (in crushed gravel, navy blue, charcoal, brick red, and ivory).

After selecting the Burrow Block Nomad Leather Sofa in camel, I chose chrome metal legs. Other leg choices were black or brass metal, and ebony, walnut, or oak wood. This sofa also comes in three arm styles. I chose the block style, which is a medium-height and contemporary armrest. The other two choices were a slope (low and ergonomic) style or a tall and arch style. Upgrades include a moveable chaise, ottoman, bolster pillows, and a sleep kit. I added the ottoman, and several months later, I purchased the bolster pillows.

Free swatches are also available.
