Bayer Leverkusen are interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Emiliano Buendia.
Buendia, who has made just three starts this season and none in the Premier League, is available to leave this month after struggling for game time.
The Argentina international is out of favour with Unai Emery following his return from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) which kept him out for the entire 2023-24 campaign.
Leverkusen are keen to source a replacement for Martin Terrier, who is out for the season with a torn Achilles, and have registered an interest in Buendia. However, no formal offer has yet been made.
Although Buendia had hoped to stay this season and force his way into Emery’s plans, the 28-year-old is behind players such as Jacob Ramsey, Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans in the attacking midfield positions. His contract expires in the summer of 2026.
“He has the option to leave but today we needed him,” said Emery following Villa’s defeat by Monaco last week, where the former Norwich player was handed a surprise start. “He played fantastic with his quality, his mentality and commitment to the squad.”
