Adriana Mendez, who has been traffic anchor on the morning newscasts on WTMJ-TV (Channel 4) since 2019, has been promoted to morning co-anchor at the Milwaukee NBC affiliate.
Mendez, who has been a frequent fill-in in the role over the past few years, formally starts her new gig Dec. 9.
Mendez fills the lineup slot vacated by Symone Woolridge, who left the morning co-anchor role at Channel 4 in November to be closer to family. (This week, Woolridge, who had been splitting her time between Milwaukee and Minneapolis, joined Minneapolis’ KMSP-TV — where her partner works as a reporter and sports host — as an evening news anchor.)
Before joining Channel 4 as a reporter in 2018, Mendez, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, worked at TV stations in Waco, Texas; Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Asheville, North Carolina.
“Adriana is one of the hardest working people I know,” Tim Vetscher, Channel 4 news director, said in a statement announcing the move. “She’s also the first person to recognize other co-workers for good work. So, not only is she a strong journalist, but she is also a great teammate. We could not be more thrilled that Adriana is taking this next step with TMJ4 News.”
