Dutch side Feyenoord have confirmed the signing of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Jakub Moder.
The two clubs agreed on a transfer fee that could exceed £3 million ($3.7m), with Moder signing a three-and-a-half year deal with Feyenoord through to 2028.
His Brighton contract was set to expire this summer.
“We have a lot of competition for places in midfield and Jakub wants to play more frequently,” said Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler. “He has recovered brilliantly from a serious knee injury; he wants to cement his place in the Polish team and it’s understandable he wants to play more games.
“On behalf of everyone here, I’d like to thank him for his service to the club. He’s been a top professional to work with, and I wish him all the best for his future.”
Moder signed for Brighton in October 2020 and has made 60 appearances for the team, scoring two goals. He sustained serious knee damage in April 2022 that kept him out for the entire 2022-23 season, including the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The 25-year-old returned to the side in November 2023 but was not able to establish himself as a permanent fixture in Brighton’s midfield under former head coach Roberto de Zerbi and his replacement Hurzeler.
There is stiff competition for midfield minutes on the south coast, with new arrival Diego Gomez adding to Hurzeler’s options that include Carlos Baleba, Yasin Ayari, Mats Wieffer, Jack Hinshelwood and Matt O’Riley.
Moder becomes the second player to leave Brighton this window after left-back Imari Samuels joined Scottish club Dundee.
Feyenoord are currently fourth in the Eredivisie, 10 points off league-leaders PSV Eindhoven.
Moder joins a squad that features Ghanaian winger Ibrahim Osman, who is on loan at the club from Brighton.
