Special Counsel Jack Smith has officially moved to dismiss federal charges against President-elect Donald Trump, arguing that it is against Justice Department policy to pursue a criminal prosecution against a sitting president.
Democrats are already wailing and gnashing their teeth over this development – and we all know why.
Judge Tanya Chutkan granted the dismissal in the D.C. election interference case, which marks an anticlimactic end to the effort to use the criminal justice system to prevent Trump from winning the 2024 election. Democrats have criticized the decision and taken issue with how long it took the Justice Department to prosecute and convict the president-elect.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) expressed his disappointment on X, saying, “The Justice Dept and the court system failed to uphold the principle that no one is above the law” and said the DOJ delayed the “progress of the case.”
The Justice Dept and the court system failed to uphold the principle that no one is above the law.
DOJ by neglecting to promptly investigate the events of Jan 6, and the courts by willfully delaying progress of the case and providing immunity.
The public deserved better.

Former federal prosecutor Ankush Khardori also whined about the slow pace of the DOJ prosecution, saying, “There are several different causes of the delay or the failure to reach a conclusion, at least in the 2020 election case. One of them is the unforgivable delay in seriously investigating Trump.”
Khardori ridiculously slammed Supreme Court rulings related to presidential immunity, saying the court “seemed hellbent on protecting Trump at whatever cost.”
Jeff Robbins, a former Senate investigative counsel, told The Hill that “Both the process and the result were disgraceful and probably do irreparable harm to our democracy.”
On the other hand, others pointed out that Smith’s appointment as special prosecutor accelerated the cases against Trump and argued that he moved quickly on the classified documents case. Still, it was not fast enough to derail Trump’s chances of winning the election, which seems to be the real reason why Democrats are upset.
After all, the whole reason for the federal, state, and local indictments against Trump was aimed at influencing the outcome of the 2024 election. Everyone, including those who supported the legal proceedings, knows this.
The bottom line is that Democrats were deathly afraid that the Orange Man What Is Bad™ would win a second term in the White House, and we now see that their fears were well-founded. The left knew that President Joe Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris likely would not be able to defeat Trump given how they have bungled every problem the nation faces since they took office.
So, instead of making their case to the American public, they decided weaponizing the government against him would be the winning strategy. They were wrong.
Indeed, even all the caterwauling about Trump being a “fascist” who was undermining democracy has died down now that the race is over – almost as if they never truly believed it in the first place.
