Joe Biden Has Awkward Mike Dukakis Moment During Trainwreck of a Meeting With the Kansas City Chiefs

For vastly different reasons, the Kansas City Chiefs have been in the news a lot in recent weeks, and so has President Joe Biden.

But on Friday, the team and the purported leader of the free world got together for a White House ceremony in recognition of the Chiefs’ 25-22 Super Bowl overtime victory against the San Francisco 49ers back in February.

As was the case during their 2023 meeting, Biden bumbled along, at one point even trying on a team helmet at the insistence of some of the players including Travis Kelce. Watch below as Biden has trouble getting the helmet on, realizes he can’t do it with his aviators on, and then finally gets the helmet placed over his head. After that, he pretends to be catching a football pass:

For some, the moment brought to mind flashbacks of the infamous Mike Dukakis tank photo from 1988, which has been credited in part for dooming his presidential campaign against then-Vice President George H.W. Bush:

Interestingly enough, Biden’s first campaign for president was in that 1988 race, where he eventually dropped out over rampant plagiarism allegations and exaggerations related to his academic record:

For those wondering, Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, who ripped Biden over his pro-abortion stance during his much-talked-about commencement address to Benedictine College on May 11th, was in attendance:

During the 2023 White House/Chiefs ceremony, Butker – who like Biden is Catholic – famously wore a pro-life tie and pin, as reported by RedState’s Brittany Sheehan at the time:

Butker, a devout Catholic, sported a custom-made tie with the words “Vulnerari Praesidio” which translates from Latin to “Protect the most vulnerable.” He also wore a lapel pin, displaying the size of tiny baby feet at just ten weeks gestational age. The pro-life tie was created by Live Action, a nonprofit founded by notable pro-life advocate Lila Rose.

In the midst of the media-driven outrage over Butker’s decidedly unwoke speech to the college graduates, Chiefs coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes defended him as a man of strong character and faith and in the process put to rest the speculation that Butker’s remarks would cause tension in the locker room.

There’s no word yet on whether Biden and Butker interacted during Friday’s ceremony.
