Australia’s residential property price record could soon be smashed, with the striking Sydney mansion, Wingadal, hitting the market with price expectations of more than $200 million.

Located in the affluent suburb of Point Piper, the home is the largest waterfront estate off Australia’s premier residential address, Wolseley Rd.

Built for Aussie Home Loans founder John Symond, the property encompasses 2676sq m of land and 98m of harbour frontage, with front row views of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

It took eight years to build the home, under the direction of renowned architect Alec Tzannes, and it has never been sold before.

Ken Jacobs, of Forbes Global Properties, has the listing, along with Brad Pillinger.

Mr Jacobs said ‘Wingadal’ was an unrivalled offering in terms of position, privacy, scale and amenity.

“The estate is Australia’s most iconic residence and ranks amongst the best in the world, combining both privacy and space, exuding elegance and comfort, while featuring gun-barrel views of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge,” Mr Jacobs said in a statement to Mansion Global.

Spread across four stories, Wingadal not only includes expansive indoor entertaining areas that can accommodate up to 500 guests and undercover parking for 20 vehicles, but also offers a two-bedroom apartment, a swimming pool, a 2500-bottle capacity wine cellar, and a home theatre seating 22 people, alongside two commercial kitchens.

Mr Jacobs told the Herald Sun properties like Wingadal were not easy to come across.

“It would take at least a decade to acquire the site, design and build – and that is with an unlimited budget,” he said.

“We are looking globally, the buyer could come from anywhere, I would not pigeonhole the buyer.

“Fairwater never got to the websites, those special properties are often quite quickly snapped up.”

Fairwater once held the title of Australia’s most expensive home, before that record was broken by Scott Farquhar and Kim Jackson’s $130 million purchase of Uig Lodge in Point Piper in late-2022.

It remains the highest recorded sale, but if Wingadal achieves the $200 million-plus it hopes to, it will take the title.

Previously listed in 2016, Wingadal attracted an offer exceeding $100 million at that time.

“Wingadal has been a special home for my family over the past two decades, and now I’m looking forward to spending more time travelling overseas,” Mr Symond told the Herald Sun.

“While being an exceptional family home, we have also enjoyed hosting many important events for charities and other worthwhile causes.”

Mr Jacobs anticipates interest primarily from foreign buyers, highlighting the current fascination with Australian property, especially from European and American markets.

“Wingadal represents the unique vision of John Symond and is the most exciting listing I have worked on across four decades in the industry.

“It sits on the largest land holding off Australia’s premier road, Wolseley Road.”
