Wolves are close to signing Fluminese’s Andre with the midfielder due to fly to England for a medical.

The Premier League side are close to agreeing a fee for in the region of €22million (£18.5m; $24.4m) plus an additional €3m (£2.5m; $3.3m) for the 23-year-old to become their fifth new signing of the summer. Personal terms will not be an issue.

Wolves are planning to fly him from Brazil in the next 24 hours to complete a medical with the clubs in the final stages of negotiations.

Wolves are remaining cautious about completing the deal with other clubs still believed to be interested but the Midlands side are currently in pole position to complete the signing.

The signing is not believed to mean any of Wolves’ current central midfielders — Mario Lemina, Tommy Doyle, Boubacar Traore, and Andre’s countryman Joao Gomes — are poised to leave before Friday’s transfer deadline.

But with Gomes’s performances for Wolves already attracting the attention of bigger clubs, Wolves have made no secret of the fact they have been searching for a long-term replacement should he leave in a future transfer window.

Fulham had made an offer worth less than €25m (£21m; $27.7m) for Andre earlier in the window but Fluminense asked for more money, as reported in The Athletic’s DealSheet.

The Premier League side had been tracking the midfielder for about 18 months. After their bid was rejected, Fulham did not continue their pursuit of Andre, preferring to focus on McTominay and Sander Berge, the latter they signed.
