Both teams had clean injury reports ahead of Game 2, but that doesn’t mean everyone is entering Sunday’s contest fully healthy.
For Minnesota, Alanna Smith appeared to injure her left ankle with 7:51 to play in the fourth quarter, as she hit the floor following a blocking foul and grabbed at it. She was available for the remainder of the game, however, collecting a crucial offensive rebound on Courtney Williams’ four-point play and outrunning the Liberty the length of the floor to put the Lynx up four in overtime, among other critical plays. When asked about the status of her ankle Saturday, Smith smiled and said, “It’s fine. That’s something to worry about after this.”
For New York, monitor wing Betnijah Laney-Hamilton’s usage today. She played only 26 minutes in Game 1, by far the fewest of any New York starter. She had a minor procedure on her right knee during the season and it appears as if she is still limited. “Look she’s playing,” Liberty coach Sandy Brondello said Saturday. “She’s giving whatever she can. I think everyone sees that she’s trying. It’s not the same B that we’ve seen all season long, but it is what it is.”
