School districts are monitoring the weather as thousands of students head back to school on Wednesday, Jan. 8, amid plunging temperatures and possible snow.

A cold front bringing strong winds will also make temperatures feel as low as zero to 15 degrees heading into Wednesday, triggering a Cold Winter Advisory and Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service.

During possible inclement weather, districts work closely with the Office of Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, and police to decide whether to delay or cancel classes.

Here’s what school districts are saying about possible delays for Wednesday:

El Paso Independent School District

El Paso ISD is monitoring the situation and sharing updates through the district’s website, automated calls, emails, and social media platforms.

“The well-being and safety of our students and staff are our highest priorities. We are committed to providing families with timely updates to help them plan accordingly during this period of inclement weather,” the district said in a statement.

Ysleta Independent School District

YISD has not announced any delays or cancellations.

Socorro Independent School District

SISD has not announced any delays or cancellations.

Canutillo Independent School District

Canutillo ISD is monitoring potential winter weather conditions and will alert parents on its website and social media platforms, it posted on Facebook.

Fabens Independent School District

Fabens ISD has not announced any delays or cancellations; however, the school district does have an inclement weather policy posted on its website that its superintendent must make the decision to close the schools by 5:30 a.m. or earlier.

Anthony Independent School District

Anthony ISD has not announced any delays or cancellations.

Clint Independent School District

Clint ISD is monitoring the weather and posted on Facebook that the district will decide on any delays or cancellations by 5 p.m. the day before.

Gadsden Independent School District

Gadsden ISD has not announced any delays or cancellations but posted it would send notifications via Remind Messaging and social media platforms.
