On Saturday, Iran escalated its conflict with Israel by launching drone attacks against the Jewish state.

As RedState’s Streiff wrote, while sharing an X (formerly known as Twitter) post,

Israel Defense Forces spokesman Brigadier General Daniel Hagari has announced that Iran has launched drones from Iranian-controlled territory toward Israel.

The drones launched from Iranian-controlled territory in Iraq, rather than from Iran, are a few hours away from being engaged by the Israeli Air Force or by Iron Dome defensive systems.

The development comes as tensions between Tehran and Jerusalem have grown even more aggressive. Coming against the backdrop of Israel’s war against Hamas, this situation has raised concerns about a wider military conflict in the Middle East.

It provoked a response from the United States, with the White House reaffirming its unwavering commitment to Israel’s defense, framing its stance against aggression coming from the Iranian regime.

The White House vowed Saturday that the United States’ support for Israel’s security is “ironclad,” pledging to stand with the Jewish state and “support their defense” after Iran launched an aerial drone attack towards the country Saturday afternoon.

“Iran has begun an airborne attack against Israel,” White House National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said in a statement Saturday. “President Biden is being regularly updated on the situation by his national security team and will meet with them this afternoon at the White House.”

The White House said the president’s team “is in constant communication with Israeli officials as well as other partners and allies.”

“This attack is likely to unfold over a number of hours,” Watson said.

“President Biden has been clear: our support for Israel’s security is ironclad,” Watson continued. “The United States will stand with the people of Israel and support their defense against these threats from Iran.”

Iran’s assault on Israel comes after the regime’s Supreme Leader issued a warning that it would retaliate against an earlier airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Syria, which reportedly killed several Iranian generals.

During discussions with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin assured his counterpart that “[t]he United States stands with Israel amid threats from Iran and its regional proxies.”

The confrontation between Israel and Iran is part of a broader geopolitical drama involving various players, along with the international community, reflecting not only the enduring conflicts within the Middle East, but also the alignments of players on the international stage.

The Biden administration has been criticized for what many perceive as weakening U.S. support for Israel, which they argue has emboldened Tehran and its proxies. RedState’s Joe Cunningham discussed this in a recent article:

The Biden administration is currently saying that “We stand with Israel” if Iran should attack, but at the same time, they are actively trying to undermine Israel’s ability to wage war against the Islamic terrorist forces that launched the horrendous October 7 attacks and serve as proxies for Iran.

Biden’s weakness on Israel can, in part, be traced to the Michigan primary, where 18 percent of Democratic voters refused to vote for Joe Biden. In a panic, the Biden administration decided the loud pro-Hamas voices calling for Biden to condemn Israel’s response were the ones costing him votes. So they have changed their policy stance and have told Israel, “We don’t really stand with you all that much.”

At this stage, it is difficult to tell how the escalated hostilities between Israel and Iran will shape geopolitics in the region. But we can be sure that Russia, China, and the rest of the world are watching to see how the United States responds.

As this is a developing story, RedState will keep you posted with any updates.
