MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski is either reporting from an alternate universe or is watching someone named Joe Biden who isn’t the current President of the United States. That’s the only way to explain some of her recent, post-debate comments on the befuddled old president.
The co-host of MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ began Monday with a 15-minute monologue to defend President Joe Biden’s White House bid — despite admitting his debate performance last week was an “unmitigated disaster.”
‘Morning Joe’ co-host Mika Brzezinksi acknowledged the poor debate performance, in which Biden’s voice was hoarse and he appeared to freeze at times while struggling to gather his thoughts and articulate his answers during the CNN debate.
“It was bad…[Biden] couldn’t seem to land a thought. It was an unmitigated disaster by any measure.
That’s where her connection to reality ends.
Nevertheless, she countered what she called the “global call” for Biden to drop out and make way for a new party candidate.
The left-leaning political commentator – and Biden family friend who said she has closely known the president and his family for decades – framed the sitting president as a lifetime underdog who will once again rise from the ashes come November.
This is enough to make one wonder what the weather is like on Planet Mika.
But wait! There’s more!
She praised Biden for the “vintage sparkle” in his eyes and “winning smile” at a North Carolina rally the day after the debate.
“I still believe in Joe Biden,” Brzesinksi said. “I’ve learned that counting him out is always a mistake and doing that now could be catastrophic for our country.”
She questioned Biden’s schedule prior to the debate – back-to-back trips to Normandy for the 80th anniversary of D-Day, then to Italy for the G7 Climate Summit, then to Los Angeles before heading back to the East Coast – and called for better “management” among his aides.
“It makes me angry that he was moving across the world on four different time zones,” Brzesinksi said. “It seems to me this is a lack of discipline.”
Let’s take a closer look at some of these statements, shall we?
First, the “vintage sparkle” is probably more aptly described as a “dull glimmer,” at least until there is a child to be sniffed; that’s about the only time the president shows any animation. We could choose to be charitable and assume that Mika meant to say “vintage 1898,” but there’s no way to be sure. As for the “winning smile,” that’s an interesting way to say “vacant grin.”
Second, this bit: “I’ve learned that counting him out is always a mistake and doing that now could be catastrophic for our country.” Mika, please, leaving him in place is what would be catastrophic for our country. He’s in no way fit to serve in one of the most difficult, demanding jobs on the planet; this is a job that visibly ages everyone who holds it, and Joe has no age left to give for his country. He has, in effect, aged out of the role. Leaving him as president signals a weakness that unfriendly forces surely recognize.
Third and finally: She bemoans the “lack of discipline” that has the elderly, confused president running across four different time zones. It is belaboring the obvious to note that the President of the United States, the leader of the free world, should be able to withstand international travel, often with little or no notice; this isn’t a lack of discipline; it’s a lack of capacity.

The most egregious howler, of course, has to be this:
But Brzesinksi said Biden has been “counted out” many times throughout his life before bouncing back, from his two unsuccessful presidential campaigns to challenges in his personal life.
She recounted the history of Biden’s tragedies – from the death of his first wife and infant daughter in a 1972 car crash just after he was elected the junior senator from Delaware to suffering two brain aneurysms himself in the late 1980s to his son Beau Biden’s death in 2015 after succumbing to brain cancer.
Oh, Mika, for crying out loud — you’re bringing these things up? Really? Joe Biden lied about the death of his first wife and infant daughter for decades, arguably ruining the life of the driver of the truck that hit them by claiming that Curtis Dunn was drunk; he was not, and he was not at fault in the accident, but that didn’t stop Joe Biden from repeating that lie, over and over. As for his son Beau, how many times has he claimed Beau died, not of cancer in a stateside hospital, but in Iraq?
Let’s not even go into Joe Biden’s two brain aneurysms, which candidly might explain a lot about his current lack of capacity.
Mika Brzezinski is an object lesson in vicious partisanship. She is defending a serial liar, she is defending his lack of capacity for the rigors of the presidency by blaming his handlers, and she is excusing his ruining an innocent man’s life by framing Biden as an “underdog” and a rare species of Comeback Kid.
In any real world, Mika would be cashiered for not even having a distant connection to the truth. But she is, after all, on MSNBC, so we can expect to have her work to pick apart for some time to come.
