Erie-area municipalities are offering pickup for Christmas trees after the holiday. Here’s how to dispose of a natural tree properly and when they will be collected.

How do I properly dispose my Christmas tree in Erie County after Christmas?

Here are some tips provided by Lowes when it comes to disposing of your Christmas tree:

  • Remove all ornaments, lights and tinsel from the tree.

  • Cut the tree into 4-foot portions. This will help an easier curbside pick up.

  • Cut smaller trees into chunks that will fit inside your yard waste containers.

  • Check with your local recycling center for any free drop-off locations. These centers will often chip and shred the tree to create mulch as part of a soil erosion program.
