My colleague Becca Lower reported on Saturday about an encounter that Vice President JD Vance and his 3-year-old daughter had with pro-Ukraine activists while out walking near his house.
Today while walking my 3 year old daughter a group of “Slava Ukraini” protesters followed us around and shouted as my daughter grew increasingly anxious and scared.
I decided to speak with the protesters in the hopes that I could trade a few minutes of conversation for them…

I think it’s disgraceful to protest anyone in their home. Then you’re throwing their family — and their young kids, in this case — into the mix. But for sure, you should not be haranguing him with the 3-year-old there. That should be understood.
The protesters claim they weren’t chasing him, that they just happened to encounter him on their way to their rally.
Even with their behavior, Vance did his best to talk with them, as you can see from this video that captures some of the interactions, as one person screeches with him. This is what a vice president looks like.

He’s completely calm as he tries to engage with them; he treats them with respect. He behaves just like a vice president should behave. He told them that the administration was actually trying to help by ending the killing and the war with a diplomatic settlement.
Can you imagine Kamala Harris in that situation if she had a child of that age and this were “activists” on the right? First, she’d never be able to respond competently. Moreover, it would never happen from the right, but if It did, it would be all over the news, and everyone knows the media would be screaming in outrage.
But instead, what you got were folks like former CNN correspondent John Harwood offering up a bad hot take, as our friends at our sister site Twitchy reported.

I don’t even know what he’s talking about here, about “lies.” In any event, lousy excuse for haranguing him with his child. And they wonder why they lost?
I also have a question as to how these folks got so close to Vance and his daughter, to begin with, to have an issue like this. The Secret Service needs to keep people at a distance, given what we’ve seen happen to President Donald Trump. The Secret Service now has to be ever-vigilant.
This isn’t the first time Vance and his family have had to face angry activists. He also had protesters during his family ski trip in Vermont.

Kudos to Vance for how he handled this situation with his daughter. It likely helped calm her and gave her a good role model.
