A recall caused by potential rearview camera image failure includes certain Volkswagen Tiguan and Arteon models and Audi Q3 models.

Volkswagen recently issued a recall for certain 2022-2024 Tiguan, 2023 Arteon, and 2024-2025 Audi Q3 vehicles.
The recall, estimating 29,569 vehicles, calls attention to a potential error in the camera control unit at vehicle startup, resulting in the rearview camera image not displaying as intended.
Specific vehicle impacts include:
- 13,881 units of the 2022-2024 Volkswagen Tiguan
- 1,660 units of the 2023 Volkswagen Arteon
- 14,028 units of the 2024-2025 Audi Q3
Reason for the Recall
In 2023, the first report of an alleged failure of an area view system in a foreign market occurred. The ongoing analysis of reported claims and root causes occurred between January 2024 and January 2025.
The analysis indicated that certain part tolerances may influence the occurrence of the failure, but the exact parameters could not be precisely defined within the affected population.
A rearview camera image that is not available when reversing may impair the driver’s ability to see areas to the rear of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
In February 2025, the Volkswagen and Audi Product Safety Committees determined that the issue constitutes a non-compliance recall in the U.S. due to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111, “Rear Visibility.” The parking assistance system’s acoustic and visual warning (bar display) will still function.
If the recall condition is present in the vehicle, the driver will notice no image on the infotainment screen after engaging the reverse gear or pressing the parking assistance button.
Should this occur, owners are advised to use extra caution when reversing and to contact an authorized dealer. Dealers will update the camera control unit software free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on April 11, 2025.
