Vincent Kompany says Bayern Munich must not get carried away following their five-goal aggregate victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League last-16.

Having won the first leg 3-0 in Munich last week, Kompany’s side were favourites going into Tuesday’s return in Leverkusen, with second-half goals from Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies seeing them win on the night.

Bayern will now face Inter, who eliminated Feyenoord, in the quarter-finals.

“I think the boys showed again today how hungry they are for what they want to achieve,” Kompany said after the match.

“We’ve won now, and I don’t want us to get too carried away.

“We fought hard, defended crosses — and were still dangerous. It was a good balance. I’m really looking forward to Inter, but there are still a few games in between. My job is always to prepare for the next game. We’re looking forward to Inter.”

Kane, who scored his 10th goal of this season’s Champions League, said after the game: “We’ve beaten Leverkusen 5-0 over two games, that represents two very good performances against a very good team.

“What we’ve learned from the Bundesliga is that Leverkusen can also press very well. With the crowd behind them, that creates a lot of pressure — we held our ground and didn’t allow that to happen.”

Bayern remain eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga ahead of Leverkusen and they remain on course to reclaim their domestic league title.
