USMNT midfielder Tanner Tessmann is set to undergo a medical before completing a move from Venezia midfielder to Lyon.
The two clubs have agreed a fee in the region of €6million (£5m; $6.7m), but the deal is not yet finalised.
If all goes to plan, Tessmann is expected to sign a five-year deal with Lyon and become the club’s tenth signing of the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old had attracted interest from several clubs including Fiorentina, Ipswich, Brighton and Feyenoord. However, the route to first-team football at Lyon convinced him.

Tessman joined Venezia from FC Dallas in the summer of 2021.
During the 2023-24 season, the American scored seven goals and provided three assists in 42 games helping Venezia achieve promotion to the Serie A via the play-offs.
He has also made two appearances for the U.S., with his last appearance for the senior side coming in a friendly against Uzbekistan in September 2023. Tessmann did, though, impress at the Olympics and started all four of his country’s matches at the Games.
Lyon have begun the 2023-24 season with two defeats after Sunday’s 3-0 loss at Rennes followed last weekend’s 2-0 home defeat by Monaco. Their next game comes on Friday when they host Strasbourg.
