The doubles double is still on for America’s Taylor Townsend, who won two matches on Tuesday to reach the mixed final and the women’s semis.
In the mixed, Townsend and Donald Young, playing in his last-ever tournament before retirement, beat Rohan Bopanna and Aldila Sutjiadi 6-3, 6-4 to reach the final. It promises to be an emotional farewell for Young, a former junior world No 1, who is leaving the sport aged 35.
Earlier in the day, Townsend and partner Katerina Siniakova beat the eighth seeds, Italian Luisa Stefani and Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands. On Wednesday, they will face Zhang Shuai of China and Kristina Mladenovic of France for a place in the final.
Winning either event would cap a superb summer for Townsend, in which she won the Wimbledon women’s title with Siniakova and then, helped by a first-ever Masters quarterfinal, climbed to a singles career-high ranking of No. 46.
