Former acting director of ICE turned Fox News contributor turned Donald Trump’s new border czar, Tom Homan, is “pissed off” and ready to tackle the challenges of securing the United States’ borders.
As RedState’s Jennifer Oliver O’Connell reported Monday, Trump has begun naming names of those individuals who will be playing important roles in his second administration, and Tom Homan is one of them. Trump said in his announcement that Homan, a “stalwart on Border Control,” would be in charge of “the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security.” Homan will also “be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin.”
Border security was undoubtedly on the minds of many American voters when they went to the ballot box last week. Homan is likely to be a popular choice amongst conservatives for his take-no-prisoners approach to dealing with our now-porous southern border. Or, as O’Connell succinctly put it:
Homan is no-nonsense, matter-of-fact, and, most important, action-oriented. Exactly what Americans expect and need in a Border Czar. No hunting for root causes, and Homan looks like he enjoys rare steaks over word salads.
Well, look, I’ve been on this network four years complaining about what this Administration did to this border. I’ve been yelling and screaming about it, telling them what what they need to do to fix it so when the president asked me “Would you come back and fix it?” of course I have to I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t. So, look, I’m honored to have the president ask me to come back and help solve this national security crisis.
Homan admitted that he’d miss his Fox News “family,” but it was “clear” he had to go back because every day he gets up and is “pissed off about what this Administration did to most secure border in my lifetime.” He also said that he had been “off the grid” since the election due to the number of phone calls and emails he was getting from border and ICE agents excited by the rumor that Homan would be in charge of border security.
Homan and his family are also getting death threats, but he won’t be cowed, stating, “They’re not going to bully me away, they’re not going to shut me up, they’re not going to make me go away. This is the biggest national security vulnerability this nation has seen since 9/11. We have to fix it.”
When asked about how the second Trump administration will handle the issue of deportations, Homan responded:
I’ve been clear, President Trump’s been clear: public safety threats and national security threats will be the priority because they have to be. They pose the most danger to this country, so we’re going to prioritize those groups.
Homan had harsh criticism for the Biden administration’s poor performance on policing sex trafficking and made it clear that it will be a top priority of the Trump administration to find the more than 300,000 children that Biden has lost track of. Said Homan, “These children are living a life of hell every day. We need to save these children, get them back with their families.”
The incoming Border Czar also said he’d welcome the help of local law enforcement to assist with deportations and in the recovery of those lost children who were smuggled into the country and possibly placed into the hands of human traffickers. He’s likely to run into issues on that front, as leftist officials like Massachusetts Governor Maura Healy have vowed not to cooperate with Donald Trump’s mass deportation efforts.
Tom Homan doesn’t care for the theatrics or threats from the left, stating, “I don’t care if you’re Republican, a Democrat or independent. Border security is national security. We should all be on the same side of that.”
