On Saturday, President-elect Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform (reposted on X) to vent on his sentencing hearing in the Manhattan business records fraud case, which he did in his usual inimitable style.

The President-elect’s post reads in part:

I never falsified business records. It is a fake, made up charge by a corrupt judge who is just doing the work of the Biden/Harris Injustice Department, an attack on their political opponent, ME! He created a case where there was none. Keeps a “gag order” on me so that I can’t talk about how crooked he is. The Fake News knows all about it, but they refuse to talk. He may be the most conflicted judge in New York State history. The accountant testified, with total corroboration, that the records were perfect & totally above board. A legal expense was called, on the books, a legal expense. There was nothing else it could have been called. This was the so-called falsifying of records. I was hiding nothing, everything was out in the open for all to see. Every legal scholar of note said there IS NO CASE AGAINST ME. The judge should be disbarred! This is why people, and companies, are FLEEING New York – A corrupt court system.

This case sets an uncomfortable precedent in American politics, in that the left, in bringing this case, has failed to consider the “shoe on the other foot” rule. If this game can be played by one party, it may certainly be played by the other, and American politics will become more fractious for it.

In reporting on the announcement of the sentencing hearing on Friday, Susie Moore noted:

What that sentencing will look like remains to be seen, but Merchan, while expressing criticism of Trump’s comments regarding the judicial system, has signaled it may include an “unconditional discharge.”

As of this writing, Justice Juan Merchan is reportedly not considering any jail time for the President-elect.

One way or another, the case will almost certainly be appealed. The case is, by all reports from impartial observers, a tissue-thin fabrication. We might note that one of America’s foremost minds in criminal law, Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz, who campaigned against Trump in 2016, has also blasted this case, openly and repeatedly.

All Americans, regardless of political affiliation, should be appalled at this selective prosecution. Today the target is Trump. Tomorrow it may be a Democrat. After that, you and me. The criminal justice system is on trial in New York. If Trump is convicted based on the distortion of law and facts that we’re seeing, the system will have failed us all.

The legal system in New York has failed. But, as someone famously said, success is the best revenge, and no matter what happens in the Manhattan courtroom, Donald Trump will, in 16 days, be inaugurated as President of the United States.

Stay tuned. When the sentencing hearing takes place, we will bring you the latest.
