After the July 13 assassination attempt that sought to take former President and GOP nominee Donald Trump’s life, the Trump campaign appears confident with its forward momentum. Despite some tightening in the polls, Trump still has a 1.7-point edge nationally over Vice President and likely Democrat nominee Kamala Harris. These polls were taken soon after President Joe Biden decided to step down from his reelection bid, so much of the tightening has to do with his removal at the top of the ticket. The Trump campaign knows it still has a fight on its hands, but they are getting busy building a cabinet, with several Republican Senators positioned to take up those seats.

Republican allies of former President Trump expect him to draw heavily from the Senate GOP conference to fill his Cabinet if he is elected to a second term in November, with Sens. Bill Hagerty (Tenn.), Tom Cotton (Ark.), Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Tommy Tuberville (Ala.) in contention for top-level jobs.

Republicans feel confident about Trump’s chances against Vice President Harris in November and are buzzing about who could lead the departments of Treasury, Defense, State and Education if Trump wins.

Although he is still a freshman senator, Trump choosing MO Sen. Eric Schmitt for Attorney General is almost a guarantee. Schmitt’s spearheading the Murthy v. Missouri lawsuit against the government’s collusion with Big Tech has distinguished him as a forceful advocate for liberty and a strong ally against the Deep State. Schmitt has also exhibited strong positions on the rule of law and separation of powers.

Sources are touting AL Sen. Tommy Tuberville for Secretary of Education. However, he would make more sense as Secretary of Defense. Tuberville has been a staunch advocate for our fighting men and against the Woke and transgender ideology that is crippling military readiness. Tuberville has also almost single-handedly stood against the Department of Defense’s abortion tourism. Some see AR Sen. Tom Cotton as a clearer choice because of his extensive and decorated military background. He sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee and has a keen understanding of the importance of a strong national defense and the actions of this current administration that have hampered this.

TN Sen. Bill Hagerty is being floated as a Treasury Secretary because of his successful private career at an equity firm. His ties as the 2012 national finance chair for then-presidential candidate Mitt Romney may not do him any favors, but he is miles ahead of swamp creatures like former Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, who did Trump no favors in his first term.

As vice chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, FL Sen. Marco Rubio has already distinguished himself as a knowledgeable statesman and a fighter on intelligence, foreign policy, and Chinese infiltration and aggression. Rubio is being floated as a potential CIA Director, Director of National Intelligence, or Secretary of State.

Strong Trump surrogate SC Sen. Tim Scott is being floated for both Secretary of Housing and Urban Development or Secretary of Health and Human Services because of his strong business background in the insurance industry and his work with the first Trump administration in building opportunity zones.

Note that none of these senators are on the 2024 ballot for reelection. They are also from secure Red states, and in the event of a Trump victory, should they be confirmed, some would be replaced by gubernatorial appointments. With the battle for the Republicans to retake the Senate in 2024, these are critical factors.
