Real Sociedad expect midfielder Martin Zubimendi to agree a move to Liverpool, according to numerous people familiar with the situation at the Spanish club.
The Athletic previously reported that the Spanish club were aware of Liverpool’s interest in the 25-year-old.
Liverpool have been exploring a deal to sign Zubimendi as they work to strengthen Arne Slot’s squad with a new No 6 but a move for the Spain international is complicated by his €60million (£51.7m; $63.4m) release clause needing to be paid in full — if the La Liga club are not willing to negotiate a fee below that figure.
