According to Toyota, machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine when it was produced. In the involved vehicles, this can lead to potential engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start and/or a loss of motive power.
Toyota could replace the engines on approximately 102,000 Toyota and Lexus-branded vehicles previously recalled due to a potential loss of motive power.
The recall, which Automotive Fleet first reported on in June 2024, involves certain model year 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra pickup trucks and Lexus LX (conventional gas model only) SUVs.
When the recall was first announced, Toyota did not have a remedy in place. Now, the automaker says it will replace the engines on affected vehicles entirely.
In addition to the 102,000 affected vehicles in the U.S., another 10,000 vehicles were recalled in Canada, the automaker noted in a news release.

In the involved vehicles, this can lead to potential engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start and/or a loss of motive power. A loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds can increase the risk of a crash.
For all involved vehicles, Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the engine with a new one at no cost to customers.
According to documents submitted to NHTSA, hybrid models are not included in the recall because if the engine failure occurs on a hybrid vehicle, it continues to have some motive power for limited distances and provides the driver with a continuous audible warning, warning lamps, and visual warning messages.
As of May 20, 2024, Toyota estimates there were 166 Toyota Field Technical Reports and 824 warranty claims that may have been previously reported as having the issue.
