In the seven years since rock icon Tom Petty tragically died at age 66, fans have had several chances to scoop up a piece of his real estate portfolio—though this might be the last (and the most lavish abode). Priced at $19 million, Petty’s longtime Malibu home is hitting the market for the first time since the musician bought it in 1998, according to Mansion Global.

After the “Free Fallin’” singer’s October 2017 death, his Lake Sherwood, California, dwelling listed for $5.9 million. In 2018, the custom-built Encino, California, mansion where the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer lived in the ’80s and ’90s was listed for a hair under $5 million. The following year, Petty’s childhood house in Gainesville, Florida, was sold to a fan aiming to turn it into a museum. Most recently, the roughly 2,200-square-foot Malibu residence that inspired his song “Something Good Coming” hit the market in December 2022 for $9.85 million.

This Malibu compound, though further from the beach, is grander in scale than the one listed two years ago. Spanning nearly 10,000 feet, the Mediterranean-style pad has a total of seven bedrooms. Two guesthouses, one of which the late rocker converted into a recording studio, round out the estate.

“He loved that house, it was a sanctuary. It was always full of music and laughter and love,” said listing agent Pamela Van Ierland, who was also Petty’s friend. “I hope that whoever buys it will have a connection to him and his music. It’s so full of memories.”

Dark hardwood floors, Spanish tiles, and vintage lighting are among the abode’s quaint details. Other highlights include a great room complete with a fireplace, a wood-paneled library, a music room, a gym, and a formal dining room that seats 16. The 2.6-acre grounds also host numerous patios, a pergola-shaded alfresco dining area, a swimming pool, fountains, and ponds.
